mySalam is a free Government takaful protection scheme for eligible people in the B40 group. According to the mySalam FAQ (General Questions), the scheme is operated by Great Eastern Takaful Berhad and recipients do not have to pay anything. It gives two benefits: a daily allowance while in a hospital ward and a one-off payment for critical illness.

Who mySalam 2026 covers: STR 2025 or STR 2026 recipients

According to the mySalam FAQ (Eligibility), 2026 eligibility is based on receiving Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) cash aid. The eligibility table on that page lists STR 2025 and STR 2026 recipients for 2026 coverage, with the following age criteria:

  • individuals aged 18 to 65 and their spouses;
  • single individuals aged 21 to 65;
  • persons with disabilities (OKU) aged 18 to 65 (stated in the English version of that table).

Age is counted as at 1 January of the year concerned. An STR recipient and their spouse count as two Insured Persons, so both can claim. Recipient data comes from the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN).

If you are single and do not yet receive STR, mySalam encourages you to register for STR with LHDN first. There is no separate registration for mySalam.

Benefits: RM50 a day in hospital, RM8,000 for 50 critical illnesses

BenefitAmountLimit
HospitalisationRM50 a dayMaximum 14 days or RM700 a year; the limit resets each coverage year

The figures above are from the mySalam Hospitalisation Benefit and Critical Illness Benefit pages and the mySalam Claims FAQ (checked 21 Oct 2026).

Key conditions for the Hospitalisation Benefit

  • Only for ward admission at Malaysian Government hospitals, university hospitals and armed forces hospitals listed on the mySalam portal. Private hospitals are not included.
  • You must stay at least one night in the ward. Admission and discharge on the same day is not paid.
  • Staying overnight in the Emergency Unit does not count because it is outpatient treatment.
  • Pregnancy, childbirth and certain other conditions are excluded. The full list is on the Hospitalisation Benefit page.

Example from the mySalam FAQ: admitted to the ward on 1 Jan 2026 and discharged on 3 Jan 2026 counts as two days, that is 2 × RM50 = RM100.

Key conditions for the Critical Illness Benefit

Five illnesses were added from 1 Jan 2025, bringing the list to 50 illnesses in 12 groups. These are rheumatoid diseases, chronic skin diseases, blood diseases, mental illnesses and rare diseases.

If you have already received RM8,000 for a critical illness between 2019 and 2024, you cannot claim again. A diagnosis at a private hospital can still be claimed if follow-up treatment is done at a panel hospital and a doctor there completes the claim form.
