Awal Ramadan, Hari Raya and Deepavali are subject to change

Six rows in the table are marked *: Awal Ramadan (8 Feb), Hari Raya Puasa (10 and 11 Mar), Hari Raya Qurban (17 and 18 May) and Deepavali (28 Oct). The final dates of Awal Ramadan, Hari Raya Puasa and Hari Raya Qurban depend on the official new moon declaration.

Three state holidays are not marked *, but their dates are tied to Ramadan and Hari Raya. They are Nuzul Al-Quran (24 Feb), Hari Raya Puasa (Third Day) in Melaka (12 Mar) and Arafah Day in Kelantan and Terengganu (16 May). We label all these dates Expected and will update the table as soon as there is an official announcement.

2027 replacement holidays not yet announced

The BKPP list does not include replacement holidays. In Peninsular Malaysia and the Federal Territories, including Labuan, section 3 of the Holidays Act 1951 (Act 369) provides that a public holiday falling on a weekly rest day is replaced on the following day. If that day is already a public holiday, the replacement holiday falls on the day after.

Based on this rule, three replacement holidays for federal holidays are expected in states and territories whose weekly rest day is Sunday:

  • Monday, 8 Feb 2027 for Chinese New Year (Second Day). In Johor, 8 Feb is the Awal Ramadan holiday, so the replacement holiday is expected on Tuesday, 9 Feb 2027.
  • Tuesday, 8 Jun 2027 for Awal Muharam, because Monday 7 Jun is already the Birthday of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong holiday.
  • Monday, 16 Aug 2027 for Maulidur Rasul.

All these dates are Expected until officially announced. In Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu, Sunday is a working day, so holidays falling on a Sunday are not replaced on Monday. The Act does not apply in Sabah and Sarawak, so check the announcements of the respective state governments.

For state holidays that fall on a Sunday, for example the Hol of the late Sultan Iskandar in Johor (11 Jul) and Isra' and Mi'raj in Negeri Sembilan and Perlis (26 Dec), also check the state government announcements. Under Act 369, holidays falling on a Saturday are not replaced because Saturday is not a weekly rest day.

Sabah: two dates for the Birthday of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong

The BKPP list sets the Official Birthday of His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on Monday, 7 Jun 2027 for all states, including Sabah. However, the Sabah State Public Holidays Schedule 2027 in the Sabah State Government Gazette dated 26 Mar 2026 lists Tuesday, 1 Jun 2027.

If you are in Sabah, check the Sabah State Government's announcement before planning leave on this date. The other dates in that Sabah gazette match the BKPP list.

What it means for you

  • With the expected replacement holidays, long weekends fall on 6–8 Feb, 5–8 Jun and 14–16 Aug in states whose weekly rest day is Sunday.
  • Wesak Day (20 May), Malaysia Day (16 Sep) and Deepavali (28 Oct) fall on a Thursday. In states with a Saturday and Sunday weekend, one day of annual leave on the Friday gives you four days off. In Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu, these holidays run straight into the Friday and Saturday weekend.
  • National Day falls on Tuesday, 31 Aug 2027. For states with a Saturday and Sunday weekend, annual leave on Monday 30 Aug gives you four days, from Saturday 28 to Tuesday 31 Aug.
  • The dates of Hari Raya Puasa and Hari Raya Qurban may change. If you are buying tickets to travel back to your hometown, choose tickets whose dates can be changed.
  • The 2027 school holidays are set separately by the Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE). The dates are in the Malaysia public holidays hub.
