A total of 271 polling centres with 1,263 polling streams will be used. Of these, 31 are early voting centres (50 streams) and 240 are ordinary polling centres (1,213 streams).

Postal vote applications in all categories opened online on 23 Sep 2026. Category 1B (citizens living abroad) and 1C (agencies or organisations) closed on 23 Oct 2026. Category 1A (election workers, SPR staff, police, armed forces and media workers) closed on 28 Oct 2026.

What to bring on polling day

Bring your identity document. For this election, SPR is extending the Optical Character Recognition – Voter Attendance (OCR-VA) system to all polling streams. The system records voter attendance automatically by scanning the identity document.

According to SPR, the voting procedure does not change. Voters go to the polling centre as usual, show their identity document to the staff and vote following the existing procedure.

Employees: the right to go out and vote

Polling day falls on a Saturday. As at 27 Oct 2026, we had not found an announcement of a special public holiday for that day.

Subsection 25(1) of the Election Offences Act 1954 (Act 5) requires employers to give employees who are registered voters a reasonable period to vote. According to a Human Resources Ministry statement issued for GE15:

  • employers and employees can discuss time-off, a replacement day off or annual leave;
  • employers may not impose any penalty or deduct the pay of employees who are absent from work to vote;
  • employers who do not comply can be fined RM5,000 or jailed for a year if convicted.

Results and official information

SPR will livestream the process at selected polling centres and streams on its official Facebook page, including unofficial results after polling closes. Results can also be checked on MySPR Semak.

All media statements and postal vote information are on the special PRU DUN Melaka Ke-16 page of the SPR portal. For other holidays this month, see our list of public holidays for November and December 2026.
