Check river levels on Public InfoBanjir (JPS), MET rain warnings, open relief centres on InfoBencana JKM and NADMA reports. Compare a station reading with its Waspada, Amaran and Bahaya levels, and check when it was last updated.
Floods hit several districts in the northern Peninsula in the last week of October 2026, and the Northeast Monsoon usually begins in November. This guide explains four official websites you can use to check the flood situation yourself: river water levels, rain warnings, relief centres that are open and disaster reports. All of them are free and need no login.
1. River water levels: Public InfoBanjir (JPS)
Public InfoBanjir is the official website of the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS). It shows readings from water level and rainfall stations across the country.
- Open publicinfobanjir.water.gov.my and choose the Aras Air (water level) menu.
- Choose your state. On the Data Aras Air page, filter by Daerah (district) and Stesen (station).
- Read the Aras Air (m) column, then compare it with the station's four thresholds: Normal, Waspada (alert), Amaran (warning) and Bahaya (danger).
- Check the Kemaskini Terakhir (last updated) column to make sure the reading is current.
Each station has its own thresholds. For example, at 9.15pm on 27 Oct 2026, the Sg. Muda station at Jambatan Syed Omar (Kuala Muda, Kedah) read 7.46 metres. Its thresholds are Waspada 12.10 m, Amaran 12.40 m and Bahaya 13.10 m, so the reading was still well below the Waspada level.
The website's home page lists stations that have passed a threshold, with the direction of the reading: Menaik (rising), Menurun (falling) or Tiada Perubahan (no change).
Hourly rainfall readings
The Hujan (rainfall) menu shows rainfall station readings by state. The website classifies rainfall intensity in one hour as follows:
| Category | Rain in one hour |
|---|---|
| Renyai (light) | 1–10 mm |
| Sederhana (moderate) | 11–30 mm |
| Lebat (heavy) | 31–60 mm |
| Sangat Lebat (very heavy) | Over 60 mm |
Update times differ by state. When we checked at 9.30pm on 27 Oct 2026, most states had been updated that day. However, Terengganu's data was still dated 2 Jun 2026 and Sabah's 14 Oct 2026. If your state's update date is old, rely on MET warnings and instructions from local authorities.
2. Rain warnings: MET Malaysia
The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MET Malaysia) issues continuous rain warnings at three levels:
- Waspada (alert): continuous rain of less than 150 mm in 24 hours.
- Buruk (bad): continuous heavy rain of more than 150 mm in 24 hours.
- Bahaya (danger): continuous very heavy rain of more than 250 mm in 24 hours.
Warnings are published on met.gov.my and in the myCuaca app. Active MET warnings also appear on our Weather, haze & alerts hub, with the time of the last check.
3. Relief centres that are open: InfoBencana JKM
The InfoBencanaJKM portal, run by the Social Welfare Department (JKM), shows temporary relief centres (PPS) that are open by state, with the number of evacuees and families. Its map marks each centre's capacity: below 40%, between 40% and 80%, or above 80%.
For example, at 5.56pm on 27 Oct 2026, the portal showed 7 relief centres open in four states with 232 evacuees. Kedah had 3 centres open since 25 Oct 2026. These figures change daily, so check the portal yourself for the current situation.
4. Disaster reports: NADMA Disaster Portal
The Disaster Portal of the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) publishes reports, announcements and media statements from technical agencies such as MET. The National Disaster Control Centre (NDCC) can be reached at 03-8064 2400.
When to act
- If the authorities tell you to evacuate, switch off the mains, unplug electrical appliances and leave at once with only a few belongings.
- Do not drive through floodwater or over bridges that look unsafe.
- In an emergency, call 999.
Victims who register at a relief centre through the MyIBJKM app can receive Bantuan Wang Ihsan (BWI). How to register is in our BWI flood aid guide. A preparation checklist and this season's rainfall outlook are in our Northeast Monsoon 2026/2027 guide.
Beware of viral messages
During floods, old photos and "warnings" without a source spread easily on WhatsApp. Check with the official websites above before sharing. Flood aid is registered only through the official MyIBJKM app or at a relief centre. Do not enter bank details through a link in a message, and never give your OTP or online banking password to anyone. You can check a suspicious message with our Scam Message Checker.
